Surface Shape from Warping

چکیده
We propose a novel variant of shape from shading which we call shape from image warping. The idea is that the three-dimensional shape of an object is estimated by determining how much the image of the object is warped with respect to the image of a known prototype shape. We demonstrate that, for a large class of reflectance functions, there is a direct relationship between these image warps and geometric warps of the underlying three-dimensional shapes. Therefore detecting the image warp relative to a prototype of known shape allows us to reconstruct the shape of the imaged object. We derive properties of these shape warps and illustrate the results by recovering the shapes of faces. Moreover, this relationship between image and shape warps helps us understand the relationship between image based models of object recognition and approaches based on three-dimensional object models. This helps explain the hidden geometrical assumptions in object recognition schemes which involve two-dimensional image warping computed by matching image intensity. In proceedings CVPR 1997. WireWarping: A fast surface flattening approach with length-preserved feature curves
This paper presents a novel approach – WireWarping for computing a flattened planar piece with length-preserved feature curves from a 3D piecewise linear surface patch. The property of lengthpreservation on feature curves is very important to industrial applications for controlling the shape and dimension of products fabricated from planar pieces. WireWarping simulates warping a given 3D surfac...
متن کاملTowards Shape Understanding through Non-Parametric Shape Warping
This paper pursues the idea of understanding shapes of unknown objects through establishing correspondence with points from the surface of known objects. A lot of geometryrelated knowledge, such as functionally correct grasps or object constellations, could thus be transferred from known shapes to novel shapes of the same or a similar category. As one critical module in such a system, this pape...
متن کاملWarping as a modelling tool for CSG/implicit models
Free form deformations are useful for describing a class of complex motions within an animation system. Such deformations have been described using a generalization of parametric surfaces and their application to modeling is well documented. In this paper we present a method that can be applied to implicit surfaces which are defined as an iso-surface around a set of skeletal elements. The resul...
متن کاملCortical Surface Alignment Using Geometry Driven Multispectral Optical Flow
Spatial normalization is frequently used to map data to a standard coordinate system by removing inter-subject morphological differences, thereby allowing for group analysis to be carried out. In this paper, we analyze the geometry of the cortical surface using two shape measures that are the key to distinguish sulcal and gyral regions from each other. Then a multispectral optical flow (OF) war...
متن کامل3D human motion analysis framework for shape similarity and retrieval
3D Shape similarity from video is a challenging problem lying at the heart of many primary research areas in computer graphics and computer vision applications. In this paper, we address within a new framework the problem of 3D shape representation and shape similarity in human video sequences. Our shape representation is formulated using Extremal Human Curve (EHC) descriptor extracted from the...
